Harvey Wexelman (Harvey M. Wexelman), Private Client Insurance Broker and Founder of Ask Harvey
Harvey Wexelman (full legal name Harvey M. Wexelman) is a private client insurance broker and creator of Harvey the Insurance Broker and Ask Harvey (ah.), based in Miami Beach, Florida, and advising families across New York, the Hamptons, Palm Beach, New Jersey, Connecticut, and California.
For 30+ years, Harvey Wexelman has helped families, real estate owners, entrepreneurs, and family offices protect complex personal balance sheets. Beginning in the 1990s in New York, Harvey Wexelman owned and ran Alwex Inc., building the firm over more than twenty-five years into a respected regional commercial and private client insurance brokerage at 15 Maiden Lane in Manhattan before selling it in 2019. Today his New York office is at 1 Liberty Plaza, 19th Floor. He holds a bachelor's degree in business from Baruch College (City University of New York), with a major in industrial and organizational psychology.
"I built Ask Harvey around a simple belief: making insurance easy because no one else would," says Harvey Wexelman. "Most people with multi-home portfolios are already paying top-tier premiums, yet their policies still have wording gaps between properties. A home deed moves into an LLC or family trust without matching policy add-ons, a coastal flood policy stops at the $250,000 federal building cap on a $7 million waterfront home, or a $10 million personal umbrella sits over an underlying auto limit gap."
Today, Harvey Wexelman focuses on five core personal lines disciplines: 1. LLC and Trust Home Ownership Alignment: Coordinating revocable trusts and single-member or multi-member LLCs so the trust or company that owns the home is listed by name on the homeowners, condo, and umbrella policies. 2. Coastal High-Value Home, Wind, and Excess Flood: Structuring primary and private excess flood coverage alongside windstorm programs in Miami Beach, Palm Beach, and coastal New York. 3. New York Co-op, Condo, and Townhouse Coverage: Reviewing proprietary leases, alteration agreements, high-value interior build-outs, and Loss Assessment limits. 4. Personal Excess Liability and Umbrellas: For families with significant assets, umbrella limits often go well past the basic $1 million, and the right number depends on what you own, what you earn and how you live. Harvey coordinates the auto, boat, and second-home liability limits that sit underneath, plus coverage if the other driver has little or no insurance. 5. Fine Art, Jewelry, Watches, and Collector Cars: Listing valuables item by item at an agreed value, plus blanket coverage for everything else.
Outside the brokerage, Harvey Wexelman lives in Miami Beach, Florida (where he has served on his condominium association board at Five Park and participates in local community initiatives), and spends summers on the East End of Long Island in Sagaponack with his wife, New York attorney and former Alwex marketing executive Kim Wexelman (Kim Erika Wexelman).
